Construction Manager to lead the on‑site delivery of a landmark 440 MW solar farm in the Pilbara. The project forms a key part of the broader decarbonisation portfolio and represents a significant step in the transition to green energy.

The Construction Manager will oversee the owner’s team on site, providing strong leadership and ensuring safe, efficient, and timely project delivery.

The role involves daily contractor management, effective coordination across civil, structural, electrical, and mechanical disciplines, and maintaining alignment with the organisation’s values and commitment to sustainability.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide overall leadership and management of on-site construction activities.
  • Supervise and coordinate Fortescue’s owner’s team to ensure effective contractor oversight.
  • Drive safety-first culture by implementing and upholding WHS standards and procedures.
  • Manage daily contractor performance, ensuring works are executed to scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Oversee progress across multiple construction packages, including civil, electrical, mechanical, and balance-of-plant works.
  • Monitor quality assurance and compliance with Fortescue specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify risks, implement mitigation strategies, and escalate issues where necessary.
  • Report regularly to the Project Director/Construction Director on progress, risks, and contractor performance.
  • Foster collaborative working relationships with contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and stakeholders.
  • Support commissioning and handover activities to ensure seamless transition to operations.

Skills & Experience
  • Demonstrated experience as a Construction Manager (or equivalent senior leadership position) on large‑scale infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in solar farm construction is highly regarded; alternatively, strong, well‑rounded capability across civil, electrical, and mechanical disciplines is essential.
  • Proven track record in managing contractors on complex, large‑scale projects, ideally within remote or FIFO environments.
  • Strong leadership ability, with experience guiding multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient, and high‑quality outcomes.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders effectively and resolve conflicts constructively.
  • Solid commercial acumen, including experience managing budgets, schedules, and resources to achieve project targets.
  • Prior experience on similar major projects within this organisation’s portfolio will be considered a significant advantage.
