This position offers exposure to a broad range of corporate and commercial matters, with a strong focus on advising First Nations organisations, enterprises, and community-focused entities across Western Australia and nationally. It is ideally suited to a lawyer in the early stages of their career who is looking to apply their commercial legal expertise in a role that delivers meaningful outcomes for Indigenous communities and not-for-profit organisations.
The Opportunity
As part of a collaborative corporate and commercial team, you will work closely with a diverse client portfolio, assisting on governance, compliance, commercial transactions, organisational structures, and strategic legal matters.
Your responsibilities will include :
- Providing advice across governance, regulatory compliance, corporate restructuring, charity and not-for-profit matters, commercial contracts, and transactional work.
- Supporting organisations with constitutional reviews, rule book amendments, trust deed preparation, policy development, and director obligations.
- Interpreting and applying the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (Cth) in practical client-focused contexts.
- Drafting, negotiating, reviewing, and advising on a wide variety of commercial agreements and related documentation.
- Developing trusted relationships with clients including Prescribed Bodies Corporate, Aboriginal businesses, Aboriginal community-controlled organisations, Aboriginal community benefit trusts, trustees, companies, and government agencies.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring sound commercial judgement, strong technical legal skills, and a genuine commitment to client service.
You will ideally possess:
- At least 1.5 years' post-admission experience in front-end corporate and commercial legal practice.
- A strong interest in supporting First Nations organisations and contributing to positive community outcomes.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality legal work.
- Strong written communication, drafting, and interpersonal skills.
- Effective time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple matters and meet competing deadlines.
- A team-oriented mindset, curiosity to learn, and a willingness to contribute positively to a collaborative environment.
