The Opportunity

We are seeking a high-calibre Project Cost & Performance Controller to join our client's Project Services division. This is a pivotal role designed for a professional with a strong technical foundation who wants to move beyond simple data entry into true Performance Analysis and EVM.
You will be responsible for the commercial integrity of a diverse portfolio of small-to-mid-scale capital projects, ensuring that our baseline targets are met through rigorous forecasting and proactive risk mitigation.

Core Responsibilities
  • Systems Architecture & Implementation: Lead the deployment of cost management systems and procedures. You will ensure a standardised approach to budget tracking, cash flow, and performance analysis across the project lifecycle.
  • Strategic Reporting & Insight: Drive the project progress reporting process. Your role is to provide the "Source of Truth" for the management team, identifying variances before they become issues and recommending corrective actions to protect the baseline.
  • Performance Measurement (EVM): Apply advanced Earned Value Management tools and techniques to interpret complex data, providing stakeholders with clear insights into project health and productivity.
  • Financial Control & Compliance: Maintain the project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to ensure granular accuracy.
    • Partner with Procurement/Contracts to manage purchase orders and payment certificates (utilising SAP and PIMS).
    • Verify contractor claims and manage end-of-month accruals and expense allocations.
  • Change & Capital Planning: Diligently manage the Project Change Notice (PCN) process and provide critical data support for quarterly capital planning cycles.
  • Team Mentorship: Act as a technical lead and mentor to junior cost controllers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
Experience & Skills
  • Minimum of 3+ years in a Project Controls or Cost Engineering role within the Resources, Energy, or Mining sectors.
  • Experience reporting on small to mid-scale capital projects ($10M - $100M+ range).
  • You should be comfortable working with international stakeholders and managing interfaces across different regions or time zones.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills are essential. Experience with Omega PIMS or SAP is highly regarded but not mandatory.
  • A deep understanding of project control principles, specifically the relationship between schedule, cost, and scope.
Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Commerce, or Finance.
  • Post-graduate certification in Project Management or an internationally recognised Project Controls accreditation (e.g., AACE, EVP, or PMP) is preferred.
Key Stakeholder Interfaces
  • Internal: Engineering Leads, Regional Business Leaders, Project Governance & Assurance, Procurement, and Operations.
  • External: Specialist Consultants, EPA representatives, Tier-1 Contractors, and Global Manufacturers.
