Working with autonomy, technology, and engineering teams, the role analyses and visualises CAS data to support incident reviews, optimisation, and strategic decisions. This position turns raw operational and sensor data into clear insights, predictive models, and intuitive dashboards that drive data‑led operations.
Responsibilities:
- Data Analysis & Modelling : Analyse large operational datasets using statistical and machine‑learning methods. Build predictive models to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies that improve safety and efficiency. Develop proof‑of‑concepts in collaboration with software developers.
- Data Integration : Combine sensor, geological, and operational data into unified datasets. Work with cross‑functional teams to ensure smooth data flow and system connectivity.
- Algorithm Development : Design and refine optimisation and automation algorithms, incorporating industry best practices and emerging data‑science techniques.
- Data Visualisation : Produce clear, actionable visualisations for non‑technical audiences and work with UI/UX teams to deliver intuitive dashboards.
- Stakeholder Engagement : Facilitate workshops to gather requirements, identify opportunities, and support rollout of process changes.
- Solution Design Suppor t: Partner with the Principal Architect to map how proposed changes affect solution requirements.
- Collaboration : Work closely with stakeholders to understand data needs and provide insights, while coordinating with IT to maintain data security, quality, and accessibility.
- Continuous Improvement : Identify opportunities to optimise processes and automate workflows through analytics, contributing to R&D initiatives that enhance operational performance.
Professional Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related discipline (Diploma or Master’s in Data Science preferred).
- Proven experience as a Data Scientist in an industrial environment, ideally within mining.
- Strong programming skills in Python, R, or MATLAB.
- Experience with geospatial tools such as ArcGIS.
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake and AWS data/analytics services.
- Proficiency in data visualisation tools including Tableau, Power BI, or Grafana.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Minimum 3 years’ mining experience, with knowledge of open‑pit operations (iron ore preferred).
- Experience working with sensor and telemetry data, V2X systems, or heavy mobile equipment/collision avoidance technologies.
- Familiarity with OT environments, mine control systems, or autonomy operations.
- Exposure to large‑scale IoT networks and high‑volume operational datasets.
- Experience supporting safety analysis, incident investigation, or continuous improvement programs using data.
- Knowledge of cloud‑based data platforms, modern data pipelines, and production-grade analytics tooling.
