About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Design Project Engineer to support a portfolio of port facilities projects, focused on project initiation and early engineering phases. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, you will play a key role in delivering engineering scopes, engaging stakeholders, and supporting execution activities including a major shutdown period.
This role also offers longer-term potential to transition into a major infrastructure project team.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop initial scopes of work, cost estimates, and project timelines
- Update capital management systems with project requirements
- Lead stakeholder engagement and approval processes across project stages
- Tender, engage, and manage vendors to develop project concepts and designs
- Oversee early engineering activities from concept through to execution readiness
- Track and manage design vendor performance and deliverables
- Collaborate with Maintenance and Process Control teams to ensure system compatibility
- Raise notifications and support planning activities within SAP
- Order and track long-lead items and materials
- Monitor project budgets, track costs, and provide forecasts
- Maintain project tracking systems and provide regular updates
- Update technical documentation including master data, inspection checklists, and redlines
- Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities
- Manage work order backlog and support project close-out activities
- Promote safe work practices through field engagement with work groups
Mandatory Requirements
- Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering
- Proven experience in mining or heavy industrial environments
- Strong project management and vendor management experience
- Experience with fixed plant equipment (e.g. car dumpers, apron feeders)
- Strong communication skills and ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Project, Word, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and perform under pressure
- Current C Class Driver’s Licence
Preferred
- 2–5 years’ experience in project management roles
- Experience using SAP
- Experience supervising execution or shutdown activities
- Exposure to port or materials handling infrastructure projects
