The Electrical Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the planning, execution, and delivery of electrical projects focused on operational plant equipment. Working closely with site teams and engineering leads, this role ensures safe, efficient, and compliant implementation of electrical upgrades, maintenance programs, and plant improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities

- Deliver electrical projects from concept to commissioning, ensuring alignment with operational goals
- Conduct feasibility reviews, scope definition, and detailed electrical design coordination
- Liaise with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders for equipment selection and procurement
- Provide technical support during installation, testing, and commissioning of plant equipment
- Identify and resolve electrical issues impacting plant performance
- Contribute to preventative maintenance strategies and asset improvement plans
- Analyse plant data to drive reliability and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure adherence to site safety policies and statutory regulations, including AS/NZS standards
- Prepare risk assessments, switchboard design reviews, and inspection reports
- Support electrical isolations and permit-to-work processes during project execution
- Interface with operations, maintenance, HSE, and project control teams
- Assist with training and handover documentation for new systems and upgrades
- Provide weekly reports on project progress, budget tracking, and resource planning
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- 3+ years experience in heavy industry or mining projects
- Hands-on experience with LV/MV systems, switchgear, motor control centres (MCCs), and plant automation
- Strong knowledge of Australian electrical standards, including AS3000 and AS61439
- Competency in engineering software (e.g. AutoCAD, ETAP, MS Project)
- Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to thrive in remote site environments and adapt to changing priorities
