Reporting to the Senior Chemist, the Instrument Analyst – Advanced Laboratory Technician will be a key contributor within the R&D team, responsible for the operation, calibration, and routine maintenance of advanced analytical instrumentation used in chemical analysis. Working collaboratively with scientists, engineers, and laboratory technicians, the role delivers high‑quality, reliable analytical data to support research, process control, and development activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate advanced analytical equipment including ICP‑OES, XRF, XRD, ion chromatography, and auto‑titrators
- Prepare and analyse samples across a wide range of matrices
- Run calibration standards, blanks, and quality control samples in line with established procedures
- Maintain accurate records, ensuring full traceability of instrument performance, calibration, and maintenance within defined specifications
- Diagnose and troubleshoot analytical instruments to ensure optimal performance, liaising with external vendors when required
- Drive continuous improvement through analytical method development, optimisation, and validation
- A background in industrial chemistry, mineral processing, or materials science is preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Mineral Processing, Material Science or related discipline with 1-3 years industry laboratory experience (desirable)
- Strong hands-on experience with a range of analytical instruments (e.g. spectroscopy, chromatography, materials characterisation) and perform method development, optimisation and troubleshooting
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and problem-solving capability
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment whilst maintaining a strong focus on safety
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with experience in collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams
