Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Health & Safety strategy for the Green Iron Project, ensuring alignment with corporate standards and material risk frameworks.
- Advise senior leaders on H&S risks, controls, resourcing, and performance.
- Provide specialist expertise in hydrogen safety, process safety, and fatality prevention.
- Develop and manage the project’s Operational Material Risk Register, including Critical Control Standards for hydrogen production, storage, reduction, and molten metals hazards.
- Facilitate Bowties, HAZOP/HAZID reviews and LOPA assessments, ensuring actions are completed.
- Implement critical control verification plans and lead project assurance activities.
- Oversee risk registers, major hazard documentation, and safety case requirements.
- Embed H&S expectations into engineering, procurement, and contractor scopes.
- Review process safety deliverables, including hazardous area compliance, safeguarding, ventilation, and layout/interaction risks.
- Support commissioning readiness, operational readiness, and pre‑start‑up safety reviews.
- Maintain a strong field presence across construction, commissioning, and early operations.
- Quality‑review incident investigations using ICAM or equivalent methodologies.
- Ensure contractor H&S plans, JHAs, SWMS, and permit systems meet project standards.
- Support workforce engagement through onboarding, prestarts, toolbox talks, and cultural leadership.
- Oversee H&S systems, reporting accuracy, and dashboard visibility.
- Manage regulatory notifications, audits, and compliance actions.
- Drive improvement initiatives across SIF prevention, process safety, and wellbeing.
- Lead readiness for external audits and regulatory inspections.
- Partner with Training and Compliance teams to ensure WHS and Mines Act obligations are met.
- 10+ years’ Health & Safety experience within mining, energy, chemicals, or other high‑risk process industries, including exposure to major construction and commissioning activities.
- Strong technical capability in critical risk management, process safety, incident investigation (ICAM Lead), and hazardous area compliance.
- Background in chemical or resource processing operations and familiarity with hydrogen safety, explosive atmospheres (ATEX/IECEx), and dangerous goods legislation.
- Solid understanding of WHS and Mine Safety legislation, ISO 45001 systems, and assurance processes.
- Highly effective communicator with the ability to influence senior stakeholders, lead teams, coach others, and drive safety culture.
- Strong problem‑solving capability, ability to make practical decisions under pressure, and proven experience managing competing priorities.
- High‑level computer literacy across Microsoft Office and safety management systems.
- Tertiary qualifications in Workplace Health & Safety, Engineering, or Process Safety, with additional training in project management, internal auditing, leadership, or training & assessment (TAE) viewed favourably.
- Current C‑Class driver’s licence.
