The position is responsible for implementing and maintaining cost management systems and processes, developing cost control capability within the team, and delivering accurate budget management, invoice validation, and cost forecasting support.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain cost management systems, processes, and procedures to ensure a consistent approach to project cost control, budget tracking, forecasting, cash flow management, and performance analysis.
- Manage the project cost and progress reporting process to deliver accurate, consistent, and timely reporting to the project management team, including identification of corrective actions to maintain approved baseline targets.
- Provide mentoring and development support to junior cost controllers.
- Take ownership of, oversee, and actively participate in key cost control functions, including:
- Applying the project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to ensure alignment across systems, processes, and reporting.
- Supporting the contracting and procurement teams with project contracts, purchase orders, and review of payment certificates, including setup within PIMS and SAP systems.
- Reviewing and verifying invoices, establishing monthly accruals with appropriate supporting documentation, and allocating costs to the correct cost centres and WBS.
- Forecasting cost to complete and identifying risks and mitigation strategies to prevent overruns against approved budgets and baselines.
- Preparing monthly cost reports and detailed variance analysis.
- Ensuring diligent application of the project change management (PCN) process.
- Supporting the quarterly capital planning process.
- Measuring progress and performance through the application of earned value management (EVM) tools, providing clear insights and recommendations on project performance.
- Assessing contractor progress claims and reconciling them against budgets and contract terms.
- Monitoring and auditing cost management systems and SAP to ensure data accuracy, escalating material variances to management where required.
- Building strong, collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders while upholding the client’s values.
- Previous experience in a similar role within resources and/or renewable energy sectors, ideally within complex construction and engineering environments.
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience in project controls, preferably including projects with international scope or multiple interfaces.
- Proven capability in establishing, managing, and reporting project cost components for mid‑ to large‑scale capital projects, including ownership of progress measurement and reporting methodologies.
- Strong understanding of project control principles, processes, and techniques, including the transition from estimates to approved project budgets, as well as cost and cash flow forecasting and analysis.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of project cost control systems, financial systems, and project reporting tools.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with both project-based and corporate stakeholders.
- Experience with Omega PIMS cost systems is advantageous but not essential.
- Advanced computer literacy, with a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and the broader MS Office suite.
- Bachelors degree in engineering

- Project management or an internationally accredited project controls certification
