This role is ideal for a senior geotechnical professional with strong design and consulting experience, excellent investigation capability, and deep knowledge of Pilbara ground conditions.
About the Role
As the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across planning, investigation, and early design activities for a major wind farm development consisting of multiple turbine installations . You will also support broader project portfolios, including oversight, desktop studies, consultant management, and review of geotechnical deliverables.
Key aspects include:
- Site reconnaissance to assess geological conditions, fault lines, and rock types
- Oversight and review of consultant investigations and design outcomes
- Desktop reviews and development of early-stage geotechnical assessments
- Ad‑hoc site visits prior to commencement of drilling
- Supporting additional international projects
- Provide geotechnical and engineering geology support across wind, solar, and mining infrastructure projects.
- Deliver technical input into Stage 2 planning, feasibility studies, and early design phases.
- Conduct site recon to evaluate geological conditions, fault structures, and material types.
- Oversee geotechnical consultants, review scopes, challenge assumptions, and validate design outputs.
- Manage and interpret complex geotechnical investigations and build accurate ground models.
- Undertake desktop studies, risk assessments, and optioneering for ground engineering solutions.
- Prepare and review technical documents for planning, feasibility, and early works packages.
- Provide ad‑hoc site support and technical recommendations through to drilling initiation.
- Collaborate with internal engineering teams, project managers, and external contractors.
- 10+ years of geotechnical engineering or engineering geology experience (design‑focused with consulting capability).
- Strong background in Pilbara geotechnical conditions and complex investigations.
- Ability to interface confidently with civil and structural design teams.
- Experienced in geotechnical design software (e.g., Slope/W, Rocscience, Plaxis).
- Strong communication, analytical, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a small, high-performing project team.
- French language skills are highly regarded
- Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology.
- Membership of a relevant professional organisation (desirable).
- Initial 6‑month contract with high likelihood of extension
- Competitive hourly rate: $90–$110 per hour + super
